U10, U12 and U14 Referee Points Program for Fall 2023

HOW IT WORKS

Teams are awarded points for providing volunteer referees

• Team that provides a CR earns 2 Referee Points; and,
• Team that provides an AR earns 1 Referee Point.
• Teams can earn a maximum of 6 Referee Points every weekend of games (equivalent to providing obligated officials for three games) even if they end up refereeing more.

Teams are obligated to provide game officials for the game AFTER theirs or for the first game of the day if they play the last game:

• Home team provides a center referee (“CR”) and one assistant referee (“AR”); and,
• Away team provides one additional AR. 
• For teams playing on fields hosting multiple divisions (i.e. Marine Avenue Park), teams should cover the game after theirs of the same division (i.e. 14UB/G) or the first of their division that day if they are the last game of the day.

Referee slots are “reserved” for those teams until 8 PM on Wednesdays. For any conflicts, please advise your Division Referee Coordinator (“DRC”) of any issue before 8 PM Wednesday. 

WHY IT MATTERS - BEACH CUP TOURNAMENT - Referee Point Adjustments:

Referee points for Fall 2023 in the chart below are based on a 10 game season so may vary by division by actual game count.  Teams that fail to meet the following thresholds of required division referee points will incur a Referee Point Adjustment penalty in each Pool Play match. Beach Cup operates on a 10 point tournament format.

Based on a 10 Game Season = 5 Home games x 3 points + 5 Away games x 1 point = 20 Point Expectation for Season

12 Game Season = 24 points - numbers in ( ) below

ADDITIONAL POINT OPPORTUNITIES: 

• Cross Division Points – if a team has covered their game(s) in their division for the weekend – they may sign up for games in their cross division (B/G) to gain experience. 
• Upper Division Points – if a team has covered their game(s) in their division for the weekend – they may sign up for games in a higher division to gain experience or as part of their upgrade path. 
• Mentor Points – approved mentors can earn points in a division at the rate of 1 point per game in any division U10+. 
• Youth Referees - are open and able to referee and assign points to multiple teams.  A youth referee can credit games refereed in lower divisions to any team up to half the total points earned for the season by the team.  Youth referees are the only referees able to “work down a division(s)” for points.  Youth referees will earn 1 point per CR in 7/8U matches.  

REFEREES NOT CONNECTED TO A TEAM: 

• Senior/graduated referees are open and able to referee and assign points to multiple teams. 
• Unaffiliated referees (youth and adult) are open and able to referee and assign points to multiple teams. 
• Should issues arise – referees should contact the division DRC to help resolve. 

Be aware that AYSO prohibits payment for referees and that monetary payment voids insurance coverage. Anyone paying a referee may be expelled, along with their child and the referee. However, teams are permitted to furnish gifts of appreciation for their service, akin to gifts to coaches. You can’t agree to exchange anything, and gifts cannot be monetary. Please contact your Division’s Referee Coordinator if you’re unsure what is permissible. 

IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE REFEREE TO ASSIGN CREDIT TO THE CORRECT TEAM USING RSS. 

DON’T MAKE YOUR DRC GUESS THE TEAM YOU WANT TO GIVE POINTS TO!
