Marine Avenue Park Turf Project
The field is complete and ready for Opening Day.
The City of Manhattan Beach and AYSO Region 18 did not just install a new turf field; we turned the old field at Marine Avenue Park into a soccer complex marked with five separate fields.
The main field (marked in white) is a full size soccer field measuring 115 yards by 61 yards and suits U12 through U19.
The artificial turf at the new complex is also marked with a smaller field measuring 79 yards by 40 yards and will be used for U10 matches. This field is marked in blue to separate it from the full size field and has permanent U10 field markings, which will allow us to change from full size matches to U10 matches almost instantaneously.
This surface is also marked with three small short sided fields measuring 61 yards by 38 yards and will be used for U5, through U8 matches. These three fields are marked in yellow and provide the same easy change between full size matches or U10 matches and the short sided matches allowing AYSO to use the field for all divisions from U5 to U19.
In addition to the new turf field, we made several great enhancements to Marine Avenue Park which includes moving the fence on the east side of the field behind the bleachers. Soon, we will also have a beautiful new 15-foot by 65-foot sun shade covering the bleachers and most of the spectator area on the east side of the field. Other enhancements include a new fence on the north end and a new cinder block storage shed to replace the old wooden locker used at the field. Finally, the new complex will have a new filtered drinking fountain with a sports bottle faucet, electricity at the field for special events, and a community information board.
AYSO Region 18 is proud of the new field, and we will give it heavy use for the next ten years. All divisions will use the new artificial field including a new "Friday Night Lights" program of matches Friday evenings.
