AYSO strongly encourages youth volunteers, particularly as Youth Referees or as Youth Mentors, and they are welcome to earn community service hours serving their AYSO Region. The only exceptions are that youth volunteers cannot be a Team/Head Coach, an Assistant Coach, a Regional Board member or serve in a staff position with purchasing responsibilities. They must never be put in the position of supervising other minors on their own.
Volunteering is a great way for kids to give back to their community, develop leadership skills, and gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of the game. We are always looking to grow the number of youth volunteers in our region and we welcome new volunteers to sign up. Parents should follow the instructions here to add a youth volunteer to the parent's account. If the parent does not have an active account the youth volunteer may start by creating their own - in all cases they need their own unique email address.
Youth Volunteers should be at least 12 years old.
The volunteer application must be submitted annually by a parent or guardian.
When the youth volunteer application is complete, the AYSO training courses can be accessed on the AYSOU learning resources website, by logging in with the youth volunteer's unique username and password. The youth volunteer must complete training before becoming active in their role, including the following training requirements:
- AYSO's Safe Haven
- CDC Concussion Awareness
- Sudden Cardiac Arrest
- Role Specific Training (Referee or Coach Training)
- Background Check, SafeSPORT and LiveScan are not required until they turn 18.
